About two years after the events of Pentecost an internal problem arose within the Church - there were factions between the Israeli Jewish believers and the Hellenistic Jewish believers. The Apostles commissioned seven men to administer the Church's benevolence ministry to make sure Hellenistic widows were not overlooked - this is the origin of church deacons.
